The heart of a growing retirement community.
The Lodge is the main communal building at Greytown Orchards, a retirement village in Greytown, Wairarapa. Designed as the social heart of the village, it brings residents together to swim, exercise, eat and spend time with one another.
Holmes Construction delivered the project, featuring an impressive glulam timber portal frame that creates large, open spans and warm, naturally lit spaces. The exposed timber gives the building its character, complementing the rural Wairarapa setting.
Designed for everyday use, the finishes and facilities were selected with durability, accessibility and ease of maintenance in mind, creating a welcoming environment for the village community.
The project presented a number of challenges, including a tight construction programme, adverse weather, a fuel crisis and rising material costs. Construction also took place within a live retirement village, alongside occupied villas and other active building sites.
Through careful planning, close coordination with consultants and subcontractors, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving, our team navigated multiple variations and changing site conditions to deliver the project on the exact date committed to.
A rewarding local project, delivering a shared space that will serve the Greytown Orchards community for years to come.
